Last week’s CreativeMornings event with Unguarded Intersection was brought to you in partnership with AUT Marker Creative Workshops. For those of you who missed out on a spot at the event, here’s a little bit more information about the cutting-edge work they do at Marker.
The Marker workshop programme is run through AUT’s Creative Technologies Research Centre, CoLab, and draws from the expertise of CoLab members, its networks and specialist facilities. The workshops enable participants to use new technologies in creative ways; from:
multi-platform storytelling
digital textile printing
motion capture
gaming in education and more…
The workshops are a great way to gain hands-on experience of the technology that is changing the way we live.
Marker is also working alongside Digital Art Live (a collaborative project with CoLab and THE EDGE) to develop a public workshop programme to support creative engagement and understanding of interactive technologies. If you enjoyed the Rollercoaster exhibition and think you’d like to try your hand at interactive artwork on the Digital Art Live Screen… Watch this space!

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was left wanting more at CreativeMornings #7. Jason Galeon wowed the crowd with his behind-the-scenes of visual effects lighting.

Jason will explore what it means to be viable in the creative sector, including keeping your integrity and taking your career as a creative from strength to strength.
As sponsors of Jason’s appearance at Creative Mornings, Survive & Thrive has a special offer for our friends and followers - get amongst over 30 speakers and mentors and sharpen your tools for only $74.See more about Survive and Thrive here and get your discounted tickets here using the promo code ‘CMST’ and start planning your action-packed, mind-expanding day.

CMakl#7 to be held in BizDojo Makerspace

We’ve been warned that there may be a few wood chips scattered around the place, but we’re excited to get a sneak peak into what will soon be the BizDojo Makerspace, when we hold CreativeMornings there this week.

Currently in construction and ready to be opened this July, BizDojo Makerspace will take the co-working vibe that BizDojo does so well for digital creatives, and apply it to a studio workshop environment for analog artists.

As well as working tables, an infinity photography wall, and industrial sewing machines, the space will feature its very own gallery and cafe/bar open to the public.

CreativeMornings will be the first of many events to be held in the space - with this set up the place is bound to be well-used as a creative venue for the K’Road area. Adobe trainers ‘Bring Your Own Laptop’ will also have a design classroom in the space and will be holding all kinds of training events and activities.

If you’ve been looking for a space like this to work from, you can read more about how the membership will work here. Or you can talk to our very own CreativeMornings Co-Organiser Elise Sterback at our next event - she’s part of the team making this Makerspace happen.

Join our community on Facebook to get the latest updates as we build the space:

Counting down to Semi-Permanent…

Thanks to Special Group last week we got a small but tantalising taste of what to look forward to this year at Semi-Permanent. SP 2012 is being held at The EDGE on May 18th & 19th, and will be bigger and better than ever with 16 speakers lined up from all over the globe. The workshop series featuring Industrial Light & Magic, Wallpaper Magazine, and Hi-Res! looks particularly rewarding, and is free to attend for all proud owners of Semi-Permanent tickets.

Read more about the line up on the Semi-Permanent website.

We’re about to add some names to that doorlist - we have winners to announce chosen from those who tweeted their CMakl#6 nametags last week.

Drum roll please….

Winning a single pass to Semi-Permanent 2012 is @ri, @adiwick, @annafisher101 and @ellamizrahi

And the winners of the SP 2011 books are @Fi_kerr and @icecreams2001

Congratulations! You can collect your swag by visiting Elise in the BizDojo at Suite 205, 150 Karangahape Road. Email elise@vibracorp.co.nz to arrange a pick up time.

What’s a CreativeMorning without a good cuppa joe to go with it? In 2012, we’re stoked to have Coffee Supreme come onboard and serve up quality coffee to help you jump start and get your creative juices flowing prior to the breakfast lecture series.

Thank you Coffee Supreme!

We like to think that most creative thinking happens with a mug of coffee at your side. So when given the opportunity to support CreativeMornings in Auckland, it made sense for us to shout everyone a cup of coffee in the morning. It’s also a chance for us to showcase what we do, and what’s important to us - our links with the people we buy coffee from, the various methods of making coffee, and most importantly, share the coffees we source from around the world.

So for all your coffee fiends out there… Every now and then, we’ll be featuring premium coffees from around the world courtesy of the guys at Coffee Supreme!

Featured Coffee

Carlos Imbachi, the latest addition to our Rare & Interesting selection. Flavours of raspberry, melon, and milk chocolate are pulled together with a thick and creamy texture, finished off with notes reminiscent of a sweet apple. This is just the start of an exciting new range of coffees we will be offering in 2012.

Background: Mr Carlos Imbachi personally manages his farm, making sure that his pickers select only the ripest cherries. Notably, he uses his own micro-mill to de-pulp and ferment his coffee. For the past 4 years, Mr Imbachi has partnered with Virmax Cafe (a leading exporter of speciality Colombian coffee), to produce some of the best examples of Colombian coffee available today. In 2010, coffee from Mr Imbachi’s farm, Finca Buena Vista, claimed the highest score out of 130 coffees from 22 countries in the SCAA Roaster’s Guild Coffees Of The Year Competition.
